Meet Brent!

Brent is one of the newest members of the Portland Hawthorne Hostel team! It’s always a pleasure to work with him and we are so lucky to have him on-board! Like all good Portlanders, he loves his dog, high elevation views, and world-class donuts…

Name: Brent
Hometown:
 Brattleboro, VT
Year moved to Portland:
  2007
Has Worked at the Hawthorne Hostel since:
 Aug 2016
Reason I moved here: World-class donuts
What else do I do?:  Backpacking, baking, cuddling with dogs, singing at plants, taking things apart and (usually) putting them back together, photography, finding new ways to be a minimalist
Places I’ve traveled to: 45 of the 50 United States, 7 of the 10 provinces of Canada, much of Europe.
Favorite mode of travel:
It’s a toss up between a long roadtrip in a car or a long trail on my feet
Favorite places I’ve visited: Iceland, such amazing hiking and never-ending sun (in the summer)
What I like most about Portland: The food and the dogs, but most importantly being able to easily leave the city behind and have amazing access to Oregon’s diverse natural beauty!
What I like least about Portland:
Rising rents, growing congestion, and the mass migration of people who want to change Portland rather than embrace it
Favorite Coffee Shop: Albina Press
Favorite Place To Be Outdoors:
The best high-elevation view with the least amount of people (Hell’s Canyon and Goat Rocks come to mind)
Favorite Nightspot:
 Roadside Attraction
Favorite Breakfast Spot:
Screen Door (if I am willing to wait in line) or Bridges Cafe (if I am not)
Favorite Restaurant and/or Food Cart: Luc Lac (go for happy hour!)
Favorite Place to Get out of the Rain: Laruelhurst Theather or a tent and a good book (whichever is closer)
