Sleep 4 Peace: A Hostelling International Tradition

As we’re gearing up for our signature ‘Bike 4 Peace’ event this coming Saturday, September 24, we would like to recognize the long-standing HI tradition of celebrating ‘Sleep 4 Peace’ and the coinciding United Nations Day of Peace on September 21. The day is dedicated to world peace, specifically the absence of war and violence. It provides a globally shared day for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences. Similarly, the goal of Sleep for Peace is to reinforce the message that accessibility to travel and youth hostelling contributes to daily peace-building by promoting intercultural understanding and conversations among young people of diverse backgrounds. The connections formed from these initiatives create new perspectives on global issues and world cultures. Furthermore, September 27 is World Tourism Day which was developed to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political, and economic values worldwide.
In effort to celebrate all of these important days, we have crafted our ever popular community ‘Bike 4 Peace’ event to encompasses their values and the values of HI USA. We believe in the power of travel to foster a deeper understanding of people and places around the world. Please join us for this momentous event!
