Why should you bring your bicycle to the Hawthorne Hostel?

Because Portland, and the Pacific Northwest in general, is such a great place for bicycling!

Portland has been given “Platinum” status by League of American Bicyclists.  The city boasts many miles of bicycle lanes, paths, and boulevards. Portland’s unique blend of geography, climate, and people has created a rich and varied bicycle culture, the likes of which not found anywhere else in North America.

Portland is a gateway for many great bicycle rides and tours, in any direction of the compass. Head south through the verdant Willamette Valley. East through the natural wonders of the Columbia River Gorge or around volcanic Mount Hood. North through quiet backroads to cities like Olympia, Seattle, Bellingham, or Vancouver BC, with a detour to Mt. St. Helens. West through the Coast Range and to the crown jewel of cycling in the Northwest, the Oregon Coast!

The Hawthorne Hostel is a great refuge for bicyclists. Bicycling fits well with our hostel’s ecology-minded philosophy, and is also one of the hostelling movement’s founding tenets. Plus, we just love to bike!

If you brought your bicycle, we offer convenient, secure, and covered bicycle storage! We also offer a tour for touring bicyclists, see this page for more information.

If you need to work on your bicycle while your here, we now have a Bicycle Fix-It Station! See this page for more info.

Didn’t bring a bicycle? We offer low-cost, on site bicycle rental! See this page for more info.
