Get involved

Volunteers are an important part of making the hostel work. Whether for a few hours a week, a month, or a one-time project, getting involved is always fun & a great way to interact with folks from all over the world. And you’ll have our eternal gratitude. We are always on the lookout for new volunteers!

Meal Nights These provide low cost, homemade meals for guests. This is a great way to facilitate intercultural exchange. Are you a good cook that can prepare an interesting meal that would be enjoyed by others? Then plan a meal. We’ll pass the hat to collect donations to cover the costs.

Game Night A fun, lighthearted way to facilitate interaction between guests! Choose from our broad selection of games new & old!

Pub Crawls Show off Portland’s great selection of bars and brewpubs. Expose travelers to watering holes they might not otherwise experience. Leaders must be at least 21 years of age, have an outgoing personality, and are responsible.

First/Last Thursday Artwalk
Local volunteers lead expeditions to First Thursday in the Pearl District (NW), and Last Thursday on Alberta St. (NE), offering a unique insider’s perspective to our hostel guests and showcasing our local arts scene.

Guided Tours, Outings, Walks, Bike Rides Share your insight and enthusiasm about our city and the Pacific Northwest. Lead a tour within Portland or the surrounding scenic areas.

Open Mic Night Help organize and run this weekly event, occurring from July through September. Musicians, poets, and other performers are encouraged to participate.

Bike-In Movie Night Our major yearly event! This occurs in late summer. We’ll need help cooking and prepping food, setting up, cleaning up, and general all-around help. If there is one event that we need a bunch of volunteers, it be this.

Foreign Language Conversation Group This provides an opportunity for guests and members of the community to practice their foreign language skills in a fun environment, while facilitating intercultural exchange. Language and skill level/proficiency determined by the group leader.

Organic Gardening & Landscaping Get your hands in the dirt! Work on any and all aspects of the hostel garden and landscaping. Help with design, planning, maintenance, composting, harvesting, drying, and storing herbs.

Create your own event Have an idea that isn’t already covered? Propose one to us!

Flyering/Promotion Travel around town on bicycle or foot to put up flyers and get the word out about all the great events going on at the hostel.
