The Bagdad Theater and Pub
The Hostel located in the Hawthorne District, known for its wonderful restored Old Portland homes, liberal residents, and fun and funky feel. The street is lined with unique restaurants and shops, and has a definite Portland-local flair.
Mt. Hood
Mt. Hood (11,249 feet tall) is only about an hour drive from the hostel with abundant recreational opportunities like hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and even an adventure park in the summer!

Book one our popular Private Rooms today! (Available online)
Looking for a quaint, affordable, well-located private room? Look no further! HI Portland Hawthorne Hostel offers more than dorm beds! We have two nicely-decorated and newly-furnished private rooms on the second floor of our cozy house. The private 'Family Room' provides ample space for a couple and two children or a few friends, as it has a double sized bed and bunk beds inside. (Children under 16 years old are free and additional adults just pay $10 per night). The "Bagby Room," named after the local hot springs southeast of Portland, is the best choice for a couple traveling together, as it has one double sized bed and a beautiful private porch that overlooks Hawthorne Boulevard.
The Summer (May- Oct )nightly rate for both rooms is $74+ tax, non-HI members pay $3 extra per night. Winter (Nov-April) nightly rate is $68 +tax.
